It looked like the right thing to do. So when I got home I picked a Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast tomato in my yard and imitated Paul&#8217;s breakfast and, ooh, it was the right thing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tomato variety, Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast, is as meaty as any I&#8217;ve grown. It holds together very well on a piece of toast. It holds so well that my daughter likes to eat a fat wedge as if it&#8217;s watermelon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gregalder.com\/yardposts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kelloggs-breakfast-tomato-sliced.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gregalder.com\/yardposts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kelloggs-breakfast-tomato-sliced.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17988\" style=\"width:602px;height:451px\" width=\"602\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gregalder.com\/yardposts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kelloggs-breakfast-tomato-sliced.jpg 602w, https:\/\/gregalder.com\/yardposts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kelloggs-breakfast-tomato-sliced-480x360.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 602px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mmm. Meaty.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast is large, somewhat furrowed, sometimes with slightly green shoulders, and turning Valencia-orange orange when fully ripe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s true that I have grown prettier orange tomatoes. Striped German can be prettier, and Pineapple is gorgeous. I once harvested a Pineapple tomato that I wanted to kiss. But for its type, Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast has been more productive and had less skin cracking than those varieties. It&#8217;s been an overall better performer in my Southern California garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This despite the variety having no local roots. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/kelloggs-breakfast-organic-tomato\">Seed Savers Exchange<\/a>, Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast tomato comes from West Virginia and was named by SSE member Darrell Kellogg of Redford, Michigan who received it from a friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I bought my seed from <a href=\"https:\/\/territorialseed.com\/products\/tomato-kelloggs-breakfast\">Territorial<\/a>, and I&#8217;ve grown it a couple years in a row. As of now, Kellogg&#8217;s Breakfast is my favorite big, meaty orange tomato to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hey, no ads!
