When the eclipse on April 8 took the edge off the sun, I decided to stroll around and video anything interesting in the moment.
The plants appeared to be behaving normally but the animals did not.

Hi Greg, I loved your video! Especially Mr Rooster and Tiger! I love how you speak to them, so very cute! Your yard is beautiful, thank you for sharing. I don’t have roosters or Tigers, but we do have possums, skunks, raccoons and squirrels. During the eclipse, the poor possum was wandering about the yard in a tizzy. We never see him during the day, only during dusk. I think the eclipse messed with his circadian rhythm or something! Today I spent all day in my garden, creating beauty. I employed some of the things I learned from you, like WAIT to plant tomatoes. I truly appreciate The Yard Posts, thank you and blessings to you and yours.
Hi Greg – kind of surreal to hear your narration….it was soothing yet clearly catching a daytime bat was weird so Tiger kind of interrupted the flow 😉 It occurred to me that avocados are not a tree that seems to be pruned or shaped up? Not having any it just seems like they are misshapen but gold mines of goodness! Happy Eclipse!
Cats are a menace to wildlife. Inherited two from my daughter who moved from her apartment and couldn’t keep them. Cuddly and cute and savage with smaller creatures. I wrap bird netting around tree trunks and the bottom sides of larger bushes to keep them away from nestlings. Works pretty well. Haven’t found a way to keep them away from Alligator and Western Fence lizards… and I only have a quarter acre to deal with.

Yes, they are. It’s good and bad. They eliminate rat, mouse, and rabbit problems. They reduce bird damage on blueberries and stone and pome fruit trees. They reduce gopher numbers. They even catch squirrels occasionally. All that is mostly welcome. However . . .
We sometimes catch them going after lizards and can prevent it or rescue the lizards since that hunting is done during the day. We’ve lost chicks to the cats too. If only we could train them more.
