Mid-March is the perfect time to compare the eating qualities of these three excellent mandarins. For me in San Diego County, their harvest seasons all begin around February, and by now they are approaching the apex of their flavor potential. So let’s pick, peel, and taste. Maybe one of these sounds like a tree you want to grow.

I was at the San Diego Little Italy farmers market this first weekend of August and there were pixie mandarins for sale from Fallbrook. I couldn’t believe they were available this late but it makes me want to consider getting one
