According to a press release dated September 16, 2021, the federal government has given $500,000 in tax dollars to UC Riverside and collaborating researchers at UC San Diego and Carnegie Mellon University in order to figure out how to “turn edible plants like lettuce into mRNA vaccine factories.”
“Ideally, a single plant would produce enough mRNA to vaccinate a single person,” said Juan Pablo Giraldo of UC Riverside, as quoted in the press release.
“We are testing this approach with spinach and lettuce and have long-term goals of people growing it in their own gardens,” Giraldo said. “Farmers could also eventually grow entire fields of it.”

I heard about this. It’s despicable as far as I’m concerned. I’m surprised there’s no comments yet.
Buy seeds for your garden now
One might wonder why the human digestive system, which has acid with pH values in the 3 range, wouldn’t chew up the RNA. But maybe the backyard crop is for injection, not consumption. The NSF tends to know what they fund and it’s quite competitive to get funding. So good on these researchers!
Crazy Crazy times we are living in..
The government is try to fix things thru money, ‘science’, and over reach into our lives.
Eddie
That is an evil scientific project.
This is so wrong! It’s sickening.
I think the point is not to eat the vaccine, but to use plants to generate the vaccine rather than in a lab (costly to ship/store) or in animals (which is how many antibody-based therapies are made). I think it would be fun to try and grow my own vaccine! Plus, more money to farmers and less to big Pharma…
The CDC stated that the vaccine won’t stop you from catching the virus, won’t stop you from spreading the virus and won’t stop you from dying from the virus. But it is safe and effective – hypocrites! The vaccine has caused blood clots, nervous conditions, and numerous other diseases with more to come over time. The CDC makes money from vaccines and can’t be sued, so why would anyone even consider being injected with something that might cause cancer or other diseases a year from now?
kinda funny how so many people are against this! sounds like a scientific breakthrough to me. Interesting article.
I agree with you Samantha! Very interesting
See my previous reply post!
All it takes is one stupid or corrupt person to genetically modify a crop to produce seeds that won’t germinate. Genetically modified corn and other grains can’t be contained and have spread to many other farms. What if crops no longer produce viable seeds? There is a reason many of us grow as much of our own food as possible – we don’t want food that is loaded with killer insecticides or modified to produce their own insecticides because that can cause cancer and other illnesses. Did you ever wonder why there is so much cancer in the world today? I love science and experimenting, but you can’t trust the CDC or Monsanto and other similar companies – they put making money above all else including our health. The mRNA vaccines are experimental and not proven to work or be safe because they got emergency approval and they got that approval because the cures for COVID19 (aka flu) were outlawed – namely HCQ and Zpack along with Zinc. Everyone taking the 4 vaccines are guinea pigs and many have developed horrible diseases and / or died. I now question all vaccines. In 2013 I got the shingles vaccine. They said it was 60% effective. When I look back, if I got shingles then I would think I was in the 40% it didn’t work for and if I don’t get shingles then I would think the vaccine worked and would tell others to go get it. Big pharma makes money either way! When you look back you will see most vaccines are not 100% or even 99.99% effective – opens the door to being a fraud that you can’t prove. Humans have lived for over a million years with no vaccines and now big pharma is a trillion dollar industry that manipulates the media, politicians, doctors, etc and has been lying to the public for decades. If you think I’m crazy, watch the movies Vaxxed and Vaxxed 2.
The scientific aspect of growing a vaccine is interesting. This should be something funded and done by private individuals, not the federal or state governments.
