September got busy for us so Jacques and I toured his garden for ripe treats in early October. We tasted fruits that are mostly available in both months: September + October. But a few usually aren’t ready until October (persimmons and macadamia nuts).
As usual in Jacques’ eclectic garden, we sampled from some plants that are commonly grown in Southern California and a few that are very rare. I had never even heard of a midgen berry. Enjoy!

I knew about the tasty flowers of the pineapple guava but not that one can eat only the petals and still get fruit. Thanks to Jacques and of course you, Greg!
Thanks for the video!.. I have a ~70 year old pineapple guava, for the first time, it hardly has fruit (i.e. Jacque’s pomegranate tree not fruiting as much this year). It usually has 20 HomeDepot buckets worth every year, it had no shortage of flowers this year either, so very surprising… It wasn’t as hot this year, no days > 100 degrees, maybe it likes heat?
I’ve seen a few feral cats come and go, with all of the rats, birds, etc, i’m not sure why they don’t stay for very long and I don’t see them often. I just think one of the problems in residential these days is lack of predators for rats and/or squirrels, I just don’t see bobcats, hardly any cats at all, and every time a falcon is arround, the 100’s of crows chase them out and away. Fences keep coyote’s out of backyards, etc..
Has anyone tried those GoodNature A18 traps for squirrels? One of the problems I have is that I don’t really want to trap/get rid of the possums, but they seem to be the first ones to go after any type of trap/bait put out to remove squirrels, would probably have to only have stuff out during daytime hours, but that’s not always easy scheduling.
